Willow Creek Principal
From Principal, Jim Kiefer
We are so excited to welcome your child to Willow Creek Intermediate. Many of our 360 sixth grade students have attended the same elementary school for the past six years. Whether new to the district, or coming from within the district, all have a new start at Willow Creek. The new teachers, new building, new procedures, and new peers can all make for a nervous start for our kids. So, to start the year, we focus upon building a community. All students will find a professional staff that is warm and welcoming… intent upon building a positive, inclusive, learning community.
We realize that parents know their child better than anyone. We actively encourage parents to contact us with any concerns. We value your input, and we respect your suggestions. Please, let us know if there is anything that we can do to help your child adjust and excel.
We have many opportunities for co-curricular involvement. Band, orchestra, choir, art club, game club, and book club are examples of activities that any student may explore at Willow Creek. These activities supplement the abundance of opportunities offered through Owatonna Parks and Recreation (http://ci.owatonna.mn.us/parksrecreation/adult-programs/year-round/programs) and Owatonna Community Education (http://owatonnacommunityed.org/page/2487 ).
For the last four years, Willow Creek has been implementing eSTEM and Leadership programs. The Leadership initiative has included a Leadership Symposium as well as participation in Junior Achievement. At Willow Creek, we have a continued focus upon inquiry-based learning and the Seven Habits implementation throughout every classroom.
We are all looking forward to a strong year of sharing, collaboration and learning.
Please, take a moment to read the article, featured on the home page, regarding how volunteers (Ag Power Enterprises and MN Pheasants, Steele County Chapter) have made an enormous difference in the lives of Willow Creek students.
