Welcome to Willow Creek Intermediate
Willow Creek Intermediate School is a 56,000 square-foot facility built on a 63-acre site in Owatonna at the corner of Hemlock Avenue and 22nd St. N.E. The school, which opened in the fall of 1990, features four "houses" of 6th grade students. The houses are each divided into three classrooms, a common study area, and a teacher office, which contains work areas for four staff members. Classes exchange within the house for departmentalized core classes.
The 12 classrooms surround an Instructional Media Center that contains resources for student and staff use. The center of the IMC features a 20-feet high clerestory that allows natural light to enter the facility. The 6500 square foot IMC area is the heart of the school.
Willow Creek is carpeted and air conditioned for year-round community use. The school was designed for the 21st century and constructed so that it could be converted to a high school or a K-6 school, according to the needs of the community. The 13,000 square-foot gymnasium is used by the school during the day and by high school athletic teams and Park and Recreation from 3:00-10:00 p.m.
The 4.5 million dollar school was designed by Hammel, Green and Abrahamson, Inc. and built by Rocon, Inc. of Owatonna.
